Credit for this goes to the superior musicianship of Clapton, Bruce and Baker, whose combination of song-craft and virtuoso jazz- and blues-inspired improvisations forged a widely imitated template for rock and beyond. ![]() Today, 52 years later, the enormously influential work of Cream at its best can still excite and electrify. 26 of the same year, with 10 previously unreleased tracks. The fourth disc features an expanded version of Cream’s previously released final two concerts at London’s Royal Albert Hall on Nov. The San Diego date is the standout performance on this four-CD collection, released by UME, which also includes shows recorded earlier that month at the Oakland Coliseum and the Los Angeles Forum. Recordings of that nine-song show here had previously been available only on bootlegs. The results can be heard on the new CD box set “Cream - Goodbye Tour Live 1968,” which features the band’s complete concert at the San Diego Sports Arena on Oct. The tour marked both a victory lap and a farewell for the legendary super group, which teamed bassist-singer Jack Bruce and drummer Ginger Baker - now both deceased - with guitarist-singer Eric Clapton. ![]() Before Cream imploded and played its final concert in London in November of 1968, the pioneering power trio ignited in San Diego during its U.S. ![]()
